Conceptor Award- Cool Spring Reservoir Plaza
American Council of Engineering Companies Delaware Chapter (ACEC Delaware) - 2010

Pennoni received the American Council of Engineering Companies Delaware Chapter (ACEC Delaware) 2010 Conceptor Award in the Special Projects Category for the Cool Springs Reservoir Plaza project. This award was given at a special banquet held in Wilmington, DE.

Upon completion of Wilmington’s Cool Spring Reservoir and Park in 1877, development blossomed on the West Side of the city. Over time, the reservoir began to lose its zeal. In 2005, the City felt it was time to modernize this more than 130-year-old attraction with the Cool Spring Reservoir Plaza Project. Armed with a design that includes the placement of a park on top of the concrete reservoir tank and existing open-air reservoir, the City set out to breathe new life into the area with a design that includes an aquatic pond, promenade, waterfalls, fountain, lawns, walkways, and landscape plantings.

Recreation, Parks & Open Space

Pennoni Associates routinely assists municipal recreation departments and schools in creating recreational facilities and preserving Open Space for the benefit and enjoyment of township residents.

Pennoni performs comprehensive planning for recreation, parks and open space, as well as design and oversight of the construction of recreation projects for our municipal clients including trails, bike paths, concession areas, comfort stations, playground areas, picnic areas, ornamental fountains and landscaped areas, skateboard parks, basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball/softball fields, soccer fields, multi-purpose artificial turf fields, football fields, and hockey rinks complete with bleachers and scoreboards.  Each municipality is unique in its recreational needs, and each project includes unique features for site layout that Pennoni carefully coordinates with the municipal directors and elected officials.

In addition to designing these projects, Pennoni also provides bid documents, solicits and reviews contractors' bids, makes recommendations for contractor award, and oversees the contractor's work including reviewing and approving construction submittals, coordinating and observing construction, and reviewing contractor pay requests.

Pennoni has also been instrumental in helping municipal governments preserve valuable open space by providing land title surveys, preparing legal descriptions, filing record plans, and updating tax maps.

In today’s economic climate, funding of these recreation projects can also be a challenge. Pennoni assists our clients by finding and submitting for grants that can make their recreational vision a reality.
