Historic Preservation Award - Hilliards Bridge
The Preservation Commission of Historic Southampton - 2006

The Preservation Commission of Historic Southampton selected Pennoni Associates for the 2006 Historic Preservation Award. The award acknowledges the design and reconstruction of Hilliards Bridge, a historic iron truss bridge constructed in 1893, which re-opened this past February.

Hired by Burlington County, Pennoni performed a complete engineering design for the replacement of Hilliards Bridge. Professional services included survey, roadway design, structure analysis, construction specifications and construction coordination. Services provided during construction included structural evaluation, construction consultation, shop drawing review, and construction inspection and documentation. The scope of the project involved the removal and replacement of the bridge abutments, wingwalls and a historically accurate reassembly of the steel truss to maintain the historical integrity of this one-lane county bridge. The design team included members of the Haddon Heights Municipal, Survey and Transportation Divisions as well as the Wilmington Transportation Division. Key staff members Florence Nield, Haddon Heights Municipal Engineering Technician; Richard Egner, Haddon Heights Transportation Project Designer; and Ahmad Faqiri, P.E., Wilmington Transportation Senior Engineer assisted with the project.


Distinguished Award- Tacony-Palmyra and Burlington-Bristol Bridges Electrical Distribution Systems
American Council of Engineering Companies New Jersey Chapter (ACEC/NJ) - 2005

Pennoni Associates recently received the 2005 Distinguished Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies New Jersey Chapter (ACEC/NJ) for design work on the Electrical Distribution Systems at the Tacony-Palmyra and Burlington-Bristol Bridges. The ACEC/NJ 2005 Engineering Excellence Awards program recognizes the best of the engineering and land surveying projects in the State of New Jersey.

Pennoni’s Building Systems division was hired by the Burlington Country Bridge Commission to prepare construction documents for implementation of upgrades and modifications to the electrical power distribution systems that serve the toll plaza facilities and associated support buildings at the Tacony-Palmyra and Burlington-Bristol Bridges. Pennoni’s work enabled the Commission to fulfill its goal of installing the E-Z Pass system and better serve its customers.


Engineer of the Year - David S. Lowdermilk, PE
Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE)- Delaware County Chapter - 2008

David S. Lowdermilk, PE, has been named as the 2008 Engineer of the Year for Delaware County by the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE) - Delaware County Chapter.

Mr. Lowdermilk currently serves as Vice President and Transportation Technology Principal in Pennoni’s Philadelphia office. As Transportation Technology Principal, he manages a $21 million a year portion of Pennoni’s $79 million total earnings, along with 142 staff members. Mr. Lowdermilk has extensive experience as a staff manager as well as a project manager and is a Registered Professional Engineer in 11 states. He serves as Principal-in-Charge of two major Pennoni clients, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Authority. Mr. Lowdermilk also serves as the Program Manager and Engineer of Record for the Burlington County Bridge Commission (BCBC).

An Alumnus of The Pennsylvania State University, Mr. Lowdermilk earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He is an active member of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE), where he serves on the Board for the Delaware County Chapter; an active Board member of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Delaware Valley Section; President of the American Council of Engineering Companies/PA (ACEC/PA) Philadelphia Chapter; and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) as well as the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE).
 


Merit Award- Trenton World War II Memorial
American Concrete Institute's (ACI) NJ Chapter - 2009

Pennoni's World War II Memorial project, located in Trenton, NJ, recently received a Merit Award from the NJ Chapter of the American Concrete Institute. This $5.5 million project symbolically encompasses the greatness, grace and courage of the WWII generation.

Six service markers and two arching story walls, encircle the central sculpture. Each service marker bares a seal that represents the six branches of the military and the respective NJ Medal of Honor recipients. The story walls communicate the history of the war effort through stories told by local veterans and a timeline of actual WWII events. Located along an outer circle are four bas reliefs, depicting battle scenes from both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. A soldier in an active combat pose and a lone battlefield marker also are highlighted in the Memorial.

As a sub-consultant to Landscape Architectural firm DHM Design and working with the general contractor, Neshaminy Constructors Inc., Pennoni provided construction management/construction inspection (CM/CI) and environmental engineering services for the construction of the Memorial, which was commissioned by the New Jersey Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (DMAVA) and the New Jersey Department of Property Management and Construction (DPMC).

Kevin J. Davis, PE

Kevin J. Davis, PE, serves as Vice President and is Principal-in-Charge of Environmental Services. Kevin is responsible for managing the growth, operations, and quality control of the firm’s Environmental Services. He joined the firm in 1995 and has extensive experience in chemical and environmental engineering in the waste management field. Kevin is a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, and earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University.

Serving as Philadelphia Post President, Kevin is an active member of the Society of American Military Engineers. He is also a member of the Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration, the Camden County Environmental Commission, and the South Jersey Chamber of Commerce where he sits on the Environmental Committee.

 


David G. Pennoni, PE

David G. Pennoni, PE, serves as Vice President and is Principal-in-Charge of Municipal Engineering. Dave is responsible for overseeing the firm’s numerous municipal and authority appointments, as well as the water/wastewater services. Dave has extensive experience in municipal engineering and public works projects involving planning, design, permitting, construction coordination and inspection, contract administration, contractor compliance and regulatory agency documentation. His project experience includes infrastructure design, stormwater management, water and wastewater facilities, sewage facilities planning, traffic planning, and roadway and bridge systems. Dave joined Pennoni Associates in 1989. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, and a Civil Engineering graduate of Lehigh University.

Dave is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, is past Vice Chairman of the Springfield Township, Delaware County Planning Commission, and is a Board Member of the Delaware County American Red Cross.

 


Construction Inspection

Pennoni Associates provides construction inspection services on transportation infrastructure projects for state DOT’s, municipalities, authorities and commissions. Experienced construction engineering professionals who help ensure that our services are performed in a professional and responsive manner lead Pennoni’s team.

Our experienced personnel understand construction plans and specifications in order to monitor the contractor's performance.  Certifications of our personnel include the National Institute for Certification of Engineering Technologists (NICET), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the Northeast Center for Excellence in Pavement Technology (NECEPT), New Jersey Society of Asphalt Technicians (NJSAT) the Mid-Atlantic Region Technician Certification Program (MARTCP), and the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) among others.  Our team understands the need for quick response to project demands, thus helping to control costs while minimizing negative impact on project schedules.  
 

 


Program/Project Management

Pennoni Associates' Program/Project Management Services include consultation regarding design, value engineering, scope of work, cost estimating, contractor prequalification, scheduling, construction, and the selection, negotiation and oversight of designers and contractors. Pennoni provides these services on transportation infrastructure and buildings/site development projects for state and municipal clients, as well as authorities, commissions, and the private sector.

Owners are responsible for multiple simultaneous construction projects. Management of the design and construction program in accordance with cost and schedule constraints can present a challenge. Mechanical

The HVAC engineering group at Pennoni Associates is comprised of engineers and designers, many of whom are LEED accredited, who have extensive experience in providing HVAC/mechanical design services for a diverse client base.  Pennoni provides HVAC/mechanical engineering design for the following systems: air conditioning, steam and hot water heating, refrigeration plants, boiler plants, underground utility site distribution, fuel oil systems, air handling and distribution, ventilation and exhaust, energy recovery, hot water, condenser water and chilled water distribution, filtration and air/water cleaning, “water-side/air-side free-cooling”, geothermal, snow melting, automatic temperature control and building/energy management.

Pennoni’s mechanical engineering services range from providing feasibility studies through commissioning of complex mechanical systems.  Our services include risk analysis of new and existing systems, energy conservation analyses, energy modeling, sustainable design, energy audits, and existing building evaluations.

Electrical

The electrical engineering group at Pennoni Associates is comprised of dynamic engineers and designers who have extensive experience in providing electrical design services for a diverse client base.  Pennoni provides electrical engineering services for medium and low voltage power distribution, interior and exterior lighting, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, emergency generators, motor controls, fire alarm, security systems, grounding, and lightning protection.

Pennoni's electrical engineering services range from feasibility studies through commissioning of complex electrical systems.  Our studies include risk analyses of existing systems, energy audits, cogeneration feasibility, sustainable design evaluation and feasibility.  We specialize in short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies. Our electrical group also specializes in the design of solar photovoltaic systems.

Services are provided for various commercial and industrial buildings, including office buildings, data centers, financial centers, educational facilities, healthcare facilities, hotels and casinos, municipal buildings and infrastructure, military bases, manufacturing and process plants, and co-generation plants.
 


Highways

Pennoni Associates maintains an in-house staff of experienced highway engineers, designers and technicians that understand the importance of the transportation infrastructure system to the American way of life.  We have seen how highway and corridor improvements can influence the economic development, progress, manufacturing, and access for the general public. Pennoni staff routinely provide design services for; intersection design and re-alignment projects, roadway widening and rehabilitation projects, major interstate/interchange projects, new roadway alignment design, urban street and streetscape improvements, and corridor studies. Through our highway design experience our highway staff has successfully coordinated and completed highway design projects for a varied client base that includes; turnpike commissions, state DOTs, federal agencies, municipal and local authorities, county governments, private developers, and design/build contractors.
