Business Achievement Awards
Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) - 2007

Between October and December of 2007, EBJ solicited the environmental industry via e-mail, web site, and word-of-mouth for nominations for the annual EBJ Business Achievement Awards. Nominations were accepted in 200-word essays in either specific or unspecified categories. Pennoni received recognition in the C&E Firm: New Practice Area Category.

Serving the uranium mining industry, Pennoni Associates received recognition for its increased revenue of $2 million exclusively in the new growth area, repeat business and multi-year contracts, an increase in training for staff involved in uranium projects, and expansion into new geographical markets. Pennoni has also successfully developed substantial expertise in uranium mining and milling techniques as part of promoting nuclear power as a key alternative to fossil-fuel energy dependence. Through this effort, Pennoni has expanded its technology and is currently supporting mining and milling projects in New Mexico, Wyoming and South America.

Hot Firm List
The Zweig Letter - 2007

Management consulting and research firm Zweig White Information Services has identified the 200 fastest-growing U.S. architecture, engineering, and environmental consulting firms for its annual ranking, The Zweig Letter Hot Firm List. This annual list features the design and environmental firms that have outperformed the economy and competitors to become industry leaders. This year, Pennoni Associates was ranked number 101.

Mark Zweig, founder and director of ZweigWhite, says, "The firms that made this year's Hot Firm List should be proud. Even with the increase of 100 firms on the list to 200, it was still an incredibly competitive and successful group. Firms that commit to revenue growth while investing in marketing, information technology, and other infrastructure are usually the most successful in our industry. They have shown they have the ability to sustain their success, year after year. The hottest firms in the business—those with consistent growth and success at outperforming the economy and their peers—are the ones that attract top staff and the best clients."

The Zweig Letter 2007 Hot Firm List is based solely on gross revenue for both fiscal year 2003 and fiscal year 2006. Firms were ranked from first to last based on percentage growth and dollar growth. Dollar growth and percentage growth were weighted equally. Each firm's two rankings were added together, and the 200 firms with the lowest combined rankings comprise the list.

Industrial Facilities

Industrial Facilities, in the broad sense, encompasses all companies that produce products for internal use or commercial sale.  This includes diverse industry sectors such as Chemical, FDA/USDA regulated industries, Mining and Minerals, Petroleum/Petrochemical, Oil and Natural Gas Production, Power and many more.  Each industry sector has its own unique process, design engineering requirements, environmental and infrastructure needs.  The key challenge is to be able to tailor a project to include any number of services that will meet the unique requirements of individual industry sector.

In order to meet this challenge, Pennoni Associates has assembled a team with various skill sets to address most of the needs of the diverse industrial manufacturing market.  From site plan development to infrastructure design, environmental impact and permitting for new facilities to plant process audits, facility upgrade designs and implementation, design and upgrade of existing process water and wastewater treatment systems, as well as all areas of industrial environmental services, Pennoni has demonstrated the unique ability to tailor their service package to our clients’ custom needs.

Operational services include process audits, chemical tracking and mass balance calculation, emissions control, hazardous materials surveys, utilities and infrastructure design, UST management and remediation.

As your preferred environmental consultant, Pennoni will help to resolve your environmental compliance issues in a typical engineer-procure-contract relationship or on a turnkey design-build relationship to suit your corporation’s contracting preference.  We understand production and we do our best to avoid all interruptions to existing plant operations.  Our expert scientists, engineers and technicians routinely help our clients stay in compliance with operating, reporting and environmental permits, as well as assisting them to improve operations while controlling costs of production.

FDA/USDA Regulated Industries

The Federal Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), were created in order to ensure that food, beverages, meats, poultry, fish, dairy products, drugs and medical devices are consistently produced at a high quality level and safely delivered to the populace.

The FDA is responsible for ensuring that foods are safe, wholesome and sanitary, that human and veterinary drugs, biological products and medical devices are safe and effective, that cosmetics are safe, and that electronic products that emit radiation are safe.

The USDA has the responsibility of ensuring agriculturally produced foods, meats, poultry and egg product safety by implementing steps to reduce the prevalence of food-borne hazards from farm to table.

A critical part of the responsibilities of these agencies is to develop, implement and police current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) standards.  This involves accountability and documentation at all levels of the manufacturing process from engineering of manufacturing facilities, handling and approval of raw materials, operation of the manufacturing processes and packaging and delivery to the final users.  Both agencies have the power of product rejection and recall based on well defined quality standards.  In many ways both agencies work cooperatively to ensure the common health.

Pennoni Associates, in partnership with industry experts, provides the engineering and process expertise to assist facilities in addressing and consistently meeting the stringent requirements of these agencies. Our areas of focus include, but are not limited to:

  • Drugs and Biologics
  • Medical Devices
  • Food and Beverage
